About ChartSmash

ChartSmash is a platform designed specifically for musicians who use the Nashville Number System. Our mission is to create the most comprehensive and user-friendly repository of accurate charts that musicians can access quickly and easily.

What is the Nashville Number System?

The Nashville Number System (NNS) is a method of transcribing music by denoting the scale degree on which a chord is built. It was developed by Nashville session musicians in the 1950s as a shorthand way to communicate musical ideas quickly and efficiently during recording sessions.

Instead of using traditional chord names (like C, G, Am), the NNS uses numbers (1, 5, 6m) that represent the chord's position in the scale. This makes it incredibly easy to transpose songs to any key instantly, which is why it's become the standard notation method for professional musicians, especially in country, pop, and worship music.

Why ChartSmash?

As musicians ourselves, we've experienced the frustration of:

  • A massive disorganized Dropbox folder
  • Innaccurate, messy charts
  • Non-NNS charts (lettered chords, EW!!!)
  • No chart in existence for a particular song

ChartSmash solves these problems by providing:

  • A searchable database of Nashville Number System charts
  • Community-verified charts with voting and version control
  • Mobile-friendly design for use on stage with tablets and smartphones
  • The ability to filter by genre, key, and more
